Some quotable bits from ted.com/pages/about

TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design.

The annual TED conferences, in Long Beach/Palm Springs and Edinburgh, bring together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).

Our mission: Spreading ideas.

We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we’re building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other. This site, launched April 2007, is an ever-evolving work in progress, and you’re an important part of it. Have an idea? We want to hear from you.

The “talk of their lives (18 minutes)” is pretty damn true. Get an accomplished person with decades of experience to condense what they want to say into 18 minutes and you get a straight double-espresso dose of incredible knowledge, non-stop. Maybe a modern education should just comprise of Khan Academy and TED Talks.

So I registered for an account to (hopefully) make it easier to download TEDTalks. and whoahoh, look at their profile page. <3 it just reminds me of Monocle’s feedback form. UBER!
