Sandcastle

[Comes with movie spoilers]
Here’s a post in plain English, you must be relieved. Watched Sandcastle with Jeremy. It’s a local Singaporean movie. Maybe not yet a Cannes winner but still not bad.
It’s about student activism, about those Chinese school communism-linked riots that the govt likes to harp on. In a way, all the racial and political and social issues that we have put behind us in order to focus on our mercenary goals and build our soulless reddot empire across the world. Or rather, that’s one way to describe racial harmony.
What I liked best about the movie was the singlish. It had a very pure and straight sounding singlish that wasn’t casual or whiny or beng-ish. But rather it was simply a clean mix of English, mandarin and dialect. I don’t make much sense here.
I love how the young generation have such a good grasp of English and at the same time be so uncomfortable with Chinese. It sorta makes us distinct from other generations.
En’s grandparents died too. Why.
