if i had a handbag, if that were possible
if i had somebody, that i would keep always by my side
i would first, in all earnestness gently pack
a Moleskine, black leather of course, without lines:
for the words i pick by the roadside,
for the moments i see with my living eye.
a Nib, inked with Spirit of Bamboo:
for words need to be illegibly set
and pictures approximately sketched.
a Lens with requisite body:
to see alternatively with,
and when words are just not quite there.
a Polaroid, taken some time before:
of perhaps a pretty scene or pretty lady
if nothing but to remember an alternate reality.
a Book, preferably a well-regarded novel:
because one life just isn’t enough
to experience every tear and joy
if i had such a bag, i would
in all seriousness,
keep it always by my side.
