End of an Era
All the stars aligned
As I have been remarking to people, ‘All the stars aligned’, and that was what led to my decision to leave the current job.
‘job’, as if that so simply summed up the exactly 16.5 years of time which seemed to have passed by so quickly, and for the most part, so easily. It was the first job after graduation, it was many different roles, many different countries, many different seat locations, maybe different office units and two different office locations. It was many many many many overseas trips (mostly during the earlier half). It was many groups of close colleagues, and also growing through many different ones, though with much heartbreak when each group left or changed.
It was, especially, meeting the love of my life and getting married, and having one kid after another.
And for many of us, who have stayed there, together, for so many years, it was really hard to decide to leave, to first want to, and then to make the move to leave.
But, you know, things happened, the owners changed, the management changed, the shareholders changed, the culture changed, the people changed. For the worse. And it became some blasphemy that is unrecognizable and outside of our control, and it wasn’t worth staying for any longer.
And then, aligned with the time of my paternity leave, an opportunity came by, went for it, first interview in 16 years, great location, suitable scope, and just confirmed it through so quickly like it was fated to be.
Even a person like myself, who is more often a sceptic than not, would believe that it is a fated move.
And so it happened. First job, first resignation, first goodbyes. In few more days it will officially totally be over. And a few more days thereafter it will be a new home. Which I am really excited about now. (after some other distraction of a kerfluffle has cleared. basically another interested party, which isn’t too bad, but which just didn’t check as many boxes, and didn’t align as many of the stars to be honest. it was not too bad though.)
I believe it will work out well.
