How to get feedback from customers

Hi there, I’m Jianhui, I sometimes often have strong opinions about many things. I don’t often like to give direct feedback, it’s too blunt. We should all be nice, right? After all, who doesn’t like a happy smiling person. I will admit that it makes me happy too if someone thinks I am nice and I am not aware that he/she actually thinks otherwise. So let’s go back to my big problem of, how to leave feedback and how to get feedback from customers. I mentioned a long time back, and it’s probably one pet peeve of mine, that customer feedback is the hardest thing to buy. You can buy advertising space, ad time, ad design, discounts, groupon promotions, product designers, copy writers, shop space, sales girls. But you can’t buy customers. Okay you can buy them by paying for discounts. But it is so incredibly difficult to get feedback, and also to listen to feedback, but that’s another issue. How do you get that grumpy customer to tell you what really is wrong? Is it the food, the plates, the lighting, the rude waiter, the slow service, the long queue, the messy racks, the harsh lighting, the aircon was too cold, the chairs too painful, the price a tad too expensive, the carrots were too soft, the rice was too sticky, the meat was too raw, the what, what is it? No, all he’ll do is say nothing and sulk through the door. AND THEN he’ll go ramble on to his friend that it was quite a meh experience. Or maybe “it was okay“. (which is politespeak for it just wasn’t good enough) So, how do we get all this feedback? How to get people to talk. Oh please, no they aren’t gonna spend 10 minutes demanding to see the manager or the chef because of a few floppy carrots. How many times have you made some snide comment to your parter or friend that “that waiter was so lousy. he so totally didn’t know the menu”. Did you tell the manager? No? =( to your brand. ouch. Even me the angsty fella might not want to appear like I’m so picky or heartless to go ruin someone’s day like that. How how how? =)
